The importance
Knitwear is the coffee farmers' way out of extreme poverty. Every time you buy from us, you're ensuring the survival of a hardworking Burundian family trying to make a living as coffee farmers. But it takes our help when we're talking about the world's poorest country (2022).
When a knitter makes one sweater a week, it means food for a week for the whole family.
Beautiful and climate-friendly
Our fluffy alpaca wool blend is exactly how we want it to be. Fluffy enough to snuggle up in on those early mornings. For the first 4 years, we bought yarn for the knitters through Danish wholesalers. Gradually, we found that brushed wool in alpaca was exactly what we were looking for. Alpaca is the best wool source. It is gentle in its environment, drinks very little water and eats only the outer twigs over a large area. The wool is the most temperate wool of all. So it's perfect for our changeable weather. It also holds up to 40% of its own weight in water without losing its ability to keep you warm. The yarn for the sweaters is brushed wool with alpaca wool and sheep's wool as well as some polyamide or nylon to give the products durability for many uses.
Either our wool is deadstock and should have been burned. Alternatively, we have built our own wool composition with a little recycled polyamide and biodegradable alpaca/wool.
We are a slowfashion brand: higher quality; timeless designs, smaller production and no machines.
Size
The Alpaca sweater is hand knitted. The size may vary from time to time. We have asked the knitters to aim for the following measurements: 55 cm. wide and 54 cm. long. The sleeves are slightly longer than the usual sweaters.
It's one size - since people have individual tastes and we don't want to dictate who it fits - whether it should be worn tight or loose.
Washing instructions
We always recommend that you hand wash and tumble dry our products. The wool is generally self-cleaning and you can hang it out to dry in your bathroom in the steam after a shower.
